Who changes which mailbox lock
A post office box is the Postal Service's property, so lost PO box keys are handled at the post office counter, not by a locksmith. A mailbox at your house is yours, and we can replace its lock or cut new keys. In apartment buildings, the answer depends on the box: some units are maintained by the landlord and others by the Postal Service, so ask your landlord or property manager before booking.
Replacing a home mailbox lock
Mailbox locks are small cam locks. Replacing one is quick and inexpensive, and it is worth doing if you've moved in and don't know who has keys, or if mail has gone missing. We carry common sizes and cam types.
- Private mailbox lock replacement
- New keys for home mailboxes
- House and apartment lockouts at your street address
- Rekeying after a move
Protecting your mail
If you suspect mail theft, report it to the Postal Inspection Service as well as changing the lock. A locking mailbox with a narrow slot is a practical upgrade for houses with a curbside box.
Keys for your own front door
Most 07303 box holders also have a home or business somewhere in Jersey City, and that's where we can help with lockouts, rekeying and new locks. Tell us the street address and nearest cross streets when you call, not the PO box, so we head to the right place. If you've recently moved and kept a PO box during the change, it's a good moment to rekey your new home's locks too.
Changing a lock on a private mailbox or a home's front door takes one visit, and we confirm the price first.
